The 5 Most Valuable Hotel Redemptions In Greece

When I was 18, my sister and I took a six-week backpacking trip through Europe. After weeks of hostel hopping, we made it to Greece. Desperate for a few days of beach lounging, we took a ferry to Santorini and checked ourselves into a hotel that we could not normally afford. Thank You, points and miles! Ever since that first trip, I yearn to soak in the salty Mediterranean Sea and gorge myself on delicious salads. While Greece is popular year-round, the spring and summer months, peak vacation time, stand out for their extremely high prices. Thankfully, there are plenty of options for point redemptions that range from mid-tier all the way to ultra-luxury.

The Best Value Hotel Redemptions in Greece

The major four (Hilton, HyattIHG, and Marriott) hotel footprint in Greece consists of 102 properties. IHG (via the Mr & Mrs Smith brand) and Hyatt (via the SLH brand) have the most hotels in the country at 46 and 30 respectively. Hilton has the smallest presence with only 2 properties. While only 26% of all hotel properties in Greece offer an opportunity for a positive value point redemption, over 40% had no award availability. The five best hotel redemptions provide a great mix of hotel brands, island location and variety, and accommodation style.

Canaves Oia Properties (Hyatt – SLH)

The Canaves Oia is a top luxury hotel collection consisting of six, adults-only, properties in Oia, Santorini. Panoramic sea-views, spacious suites, and indoor-outdoor living define the Canaves Oia properties. Each property, and room, offers postcard views of the Mediterranean from every angle. For a unique dining experience under the stars, check out Petra Restaurant at the Canaves Oia Suites. Featuring a twist on traditional Greek dishes, this is a spectacular option for fine dining. If you’re looking for something more relaxed, Canaves Oia Sunday Suites has a wonderful rooftop bar called Veranda. The perfect spot for a pre-dinner sunset cocktail. Despite the intimate nature of most properties, the Canaves Oia Villas is a 3 Bedroom Villa, ideal for larger groups; option to split King Bed into two Twins available.

No matter the property, the Canaves Oia collection provides end-to-end luxury experiences. Charter a private yacht? No problem! Morning yoga on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean? Nameste! Day of relaxation and pampering at the spa. Consider yourself healed! However, if you leave the property and venture to the beaches, bring sturdy footwear. Unlike many picture perfect postcard, white sand beaches, these beaches are rocky!

Hotel Grande Bretagne (Marriott)

The Hotel Grande Bretagne is a 5-star property that sits in front of the Greek Parliament, across from the Acropolis. The central location is walking distance to most major museums, attractions, and shops. Inside the hotel offers a fresh take on “old world elegance.” The blend of past and present transports you to another time in history. For foodies, the award winning GB Roof Garden restaurant is a must. In addition, the rooftop dining area has a straight shot view of the Acropolis. However, the best hotel feature is the personalized butler service.

The Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki is a perfect blend of business and leisure. On the business side, the property offers a free airport shuttle and conference rooms. On the leisure side, the hotel has an expansive pool, extensive gardens, and is close to the Regency Casino; one of the largest in Europe. As Thessaloniki itself is one of Europe’s oldest cities, many tourists give it a pass. However, the surrounding area has incredible archeological sites, mountain biking trails, and multiple water sport options. Perfect for a 1-2 day adventure through both ancient and modern Greece!

Perivolas Hotel (IHG – Mr & Mrs Smith)

Mr & Mrs Smith Perivolas is by far the most unique property in this review. The hotel was once the home of local fisherman and farmers. Today, the white caves transform into breezy, luxury suites for couples looking to escape. However, the luxury experience extends beyond the rooms. The property includes a spa, infinity pool overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and a dreamy restaurant featuring fresh seafood and braised lamb. Seclusion and isolation are the aim for this adults-only, cliff side property. The small city of Oia is a 15 minute walk. In addition, the cliff perch means numerous stairs, but then again, why leave, when you can stay.

Domes Miramare, Corfu (Marriott)

The Domes Miramare is an adults-only property on the island of Corfu. The island beautifully blends various European cultures and itself has a rich history. Unlike other Greek islands, Corfu has a green landscape, a coast with sandy beaches, and a quintessential European “Old Town.” This means cobblestone streets and boutique shops and restaurants. While Corfu is stunning, this property is unlike any other on the island. The hotel has a Venetian olive grove that dates back five centuries, and overlooks the tranquil Ionian Sea. In addition, every suite offers a sea view. The main dining experience is the Makris Restaurant which is a degustation (tapas-like) menu highlighting Mediterranean and Greek gastronomy. A hidden gem among the Greek islands.

Final Thoughts

Greece is an amazing destination in that is has a little something for everyone. History. Food. Culture. Romance. Greece has it all. Spend a couple days exploring history and navigating the chaotic streets of Athens. Then end your trip with a few days unwinding on a Greek island enjoying the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean, eating fresh seafood, and soaking up the sun. As a final word of caution, the summer sun is brutal. Plan accordingly, but most importantly enjoy your amazing vacation to Greece!
