For those individuals who are either a current or aspiring BILT Rewards Platinum status member, I have some great news. The Platinum status level just got even more valuable. Starting February 29th, 2024, BILT Rewards Platinum members have the ability to activate 12 months of Air France / KLM FlyingBlue Gold status.
How The BILT FlyingBlue Status Benefit Works
After qualifying for BILT Rewards Platinum status (spend $50,000 or earn 200,000 BILT Rewards points in a calendar year), members unlock the ability to status match to the Air France / KLM FlyingBlue loyalty program. On the “Elite Status” tab in the BILT app, members select “Elite Status Match,” and activate the status match request. However, in order to activate the status match, members must make a 10,000 point transfer to the FlyingBlue program. Once activated, the FlyingBlue Gold status is good for 12 months; the status match may take up to three business days from the request.
All BILT Rewards Platinum Members are eligible to enroll in this status match in 2024. However, to request status again in the following years, members will need to re-qualify for BILT Platinum status in each subsequent year.
The Benefits Of FlyingBlue Gold Status
FlyingBlue Gold status is the “mid-tier” status offered by Air France and KLM; just above Explorer and Silver, but below Platinum and Ultimate. Normally, FlyingBlue members need 180 Experience Points (equivalent to 15 long-haul Economy Class Flights or 5 long-haul Business Class flights) to qualifying for Gold status, but BILT Rewards now offers another option.
Here are some of the benefits FlyingBlue Gold status provides:
- Earn 7 miles per Euro spent
- Free access to SkyTeam lounges worldwide, including one guest
- SkyPriority access throughout the airport when available
- Free seat options 72 hours before departure
- Free selection of standard seats at booking
- On free extra checked baggage item on SkyTeam flights
You can see the full list of Gold, and other status level, benefits here.
Note: FlyingBlue Gold qualifies for SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits across all SkyTeam member airlines including benefits like SkyPriority airport access and Delta SkyClub access when flying any SkyTeam airline on an international itinerary regardless of what class of service is flown.
Final Thoughts
Is it worth chasing BILT Rewards Platinum status for Air France / KLM FlyingBlue Gold status? As always, the value of the benefit, and thus the answer, depends on the individual. If you are chasing Platinum status for the incredible transfer bonus opportunities, the FlyingBlue status benefit is a nice additional perk. This is especially true if you can then leverage the FlyingBlue status for a status match to another airline program. However, for the vast majority of people, chasing Platinum status for the FlyingBlue benefit alone will not make sense.
